Community Outreach
Utah Premiere Brass is very active in supporting our local public schools as well as many other worthwhile community organizations. Each of our concerts have a purpose as we strive to support underserved groups in our state.
Provo City Schools Foundation
Provo City Schools Foundation and UPB have partnered to provide support for elementary school music in the Provo School District. Your donations help to provide instruments and materials for first-time band students in the district. We need your help! Please consider donating today. Every dollar you contribute will go towards this effort. Click here to donate.
Kids on the Move
Organized in 1984, Kids on the Move (KOTM) provides services throughout Utah to support families with young children with special needs. In June 2022, Utah Premiere Brass highlighted their work with a special KOTM concert. It included a vocal solo by Rebecca Winegar, the daughter of one of the original founders of KOTM, singing Just Like You, arranged by Bradley Sampson, one of our band members.
Utah Premiere Brass Distinguished Music Educator Award
A new award recognizing the outstanding contributions of local music educators was commenced in 2022 with the first Distinguished Music Educator Award going to Dr. Steve Call, retired professor for low brass at BYU. 2023 saw the award go to John Miller who taught for over 30 years at American Fork High School and built one of the outstanding bands in the United States. Our 2024 recipient will be honored at a special concert on June 22nd at North Park in Provo.
The Utah Pipe Band
The “Other UPB” was featured with Utah Premiere Brass in March 2023 at the Covey Center. The concert helped them raise funds to represent the United States at the Normandy American Cemetery for the 80th anniversary of D-Day in June 2024.
American Fork High School Brass
The American Fork High School Brass is a brass ensemble comprised of players from the American Fork Wind Symphony. They are led by Bix Hollenbach, a member of UPB. This youth brass band was featured at a “pre-show” for Utah Premiere Brass at the Covey Center.
Summer Concerts in the Park
For over 20 years Utah Premiere Brass has partnered with Provo City Arts Council to provide free concerts in the park every Sunday each June. Hundreds attend these events. Kids delight in participating in the Children’s March with Dr. Saville leading them around the park as the band is “directed” by one of the children.
Food and Care Coalition
Food and Care Coalition, a Utah County institution formed in 1988, participated in a fundraising concert with UPB in February 2022 at the Ashton Auditorium in Orem. They provide an environment “where homeless men, women and children can restore their self-esteem, retain their human dignity and, become self-sufficient and productive members of our community.”
